Safety, in its widest sense, concerns the happiness, peace, contentment and wellbeing of every mankind. The danger which is least expected soonest comes to us whether we like it or not if we are not careful. “At the end of the day, our goals may be unrealistic simply because of Safety.
It’s another December….the peak of the EMBER months. The season of joy, happiness and merry making. A time of celebration for family and friends. Laughter and kindness are synonymous with this period. With a big smile on everyone’s face, this season may be a bad idea if SAFETY is skipped. Statistics by the F.R.S.C from 2008-2011shows that 87% of humans are in danger during this time because high risk, less worries and less attention to environs has been established. Transportation poses a high level of risk in the world today, but it’s inevitable, and therefore needs to be done with a lot of caution. People travel a whole lot forgetting less speed keeps you alive to see the big day you’ve always desired to see.
Public transportation poses a higher risk of safety and since there happen to be more passengers in one vehicle around this period the safety related issues becomes worse in developing countries, because of the lack of suitable and integrated safety measures in our society.
The aim of this write-up is to explore the perception of safety problems on the part of those parties involved in the operation of public transportation. The understanding and awareness of the passengers (including the driver) is the most important variable to improve the condition, to the extent that a passenger should caution a driver if you’re not comfortable, complain if you have to because It’s your right to stay alive.
On a lighter but yet vital note, National Bureau of statistics recorded that on road accident, 11,363 accidents was accounted for in 2016 of which speed violation is reported as the major cause while loss of control and dangerous driving followed closely. Life is important and so is the big day.
Action point
1. Ensure your vehicle is road worthy i.e. check your tyres, wiper, brakes, Seat belts etc. Be sure they are in good conditions.
2. Maintain speed limit of not more than 80km/ph as required by law.
3. Back check your driver’s driving skill i.e. stress level(Fatigue), and general health check on fitness
4. Adjust your driving to the weather condition.
